Sadjo Sissokho in Concert
We are delighted to announce the launch of our year long collaboration with master Kora musician Sadjo Sissokho from Guinea Bissau. Concert to take place at Twisted Pepper, Middle Abbey Street, 23rd March 2012 @ 7pm. The Kora is a 21 string West African harp and the soft melodies and Sissokho’s singing will be accompanied in parts by West African percussion. Support on the night from DJ One World. African Food will be served.

Wassa Wassa Workshops on RTE-Kidspeak

Irish Aid and Wassa Wassa Workshops present- Pathways to Africa Project -part of Africa Day 2011 -Featuring Legend of Of West African Percussion Nansady Keita
Pathways to Africa-Africa Day 2011 will bring the colour, sounds and spectacle of Africa to Temple Bar through public drum workshops and a high-energy World Music Event at the Button Factory (Sunday 22nd May 7pm) featuring legend of West African Percussion Nansady Keita with Wassa Wassa Rhythm & Dance Collective, Congalese music from Niwel TSumbo and reggae, dub & roots with Dub Investigation.
This concert is one of the main Dublin events to celebrate Africa Day 2011 and is proudly supported by Irish Aid and produced by Wassa Wassa Workshops. Africa Day, an initiative of the African Union, falls on the 25th May each year. A weeklong series of events with African music, dance, film, history, educational activities, sport and art and will take place between May 21st and May 29th to mark Africa Day in Ireland. The aim of the week is to celebrate the diversity and potential of the African continent and increase awareness of Ireland’s many links with Africa. (http://www.africaday.ie/Dublin.aspx )

Africa Day events are an opportunity to celebrate the heritage and identity of African communities living in Ireland. The aim is also to raise public awareness of Irish Aid, the Irish Government’s overseas development programme, and the countries in which it works. Irish Aid, Ireland’s official aid programme to developing countries is delighted to support events such as this marking Africa Day. The focus of Ireland’s aid programme is the fight against poverty and exclusion in some of the world’s least developed countries, particularly in Africa.
Wassa Wassa welcomes Nansady Keita
Wassa Wassa are delighted to announce Djembe-fola-Nansady Keita will be joining us for a series of workshops and performances from 20th-23rd May. Djembé-master Famoudou Konaté says about his nephew Nansady: “The workshops and performances that Nansady Keita offers magnificently illustrate the one-of-a-kind musical tradition of the Malinké in Guinea. Together with the fine combination of traditional ability and professional experience he is an ideal and suitable representative for the culture of our people”.
